I am part of a profession that has become overcrowded with marginally successful attorneys, which often leads to other lawyers making promises about guaranteed case results. Over the past twenty-eight years, my clients have occasionally informed me of what other lawyers promised and asked what guaranty I will offer for the fee they are paying me.
If you are reading this because you need a good lawyer, I want to offer some important advice that will serve you well no matter who you hire to represent you: Be aware of promises of particular results! No lawyer, no matter how good, is in a position to promise a particular result in any case. To prove my point, just ask any lawyer who gives you a guaranty of a particular outcome to put it in writing!
Lawyers can promise to do their best. Lawyers can believe in the quality of the case. Lawyers can believe that they will probably be able to get a particular result. But a competent lawyer will never guarantee a particular result. Not being willing to guarantee a result is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of experience and wisdom. A competent lawyer will never guarantee a particular result. What I guaranty a client for the fee I am being paid is that I will provide aggressive, personalized and competent representation. I guaranty I will provide the best representation I can possibly give. When you hire me, you will have a lawyer on your side who believes in doing everything possible to protect your rights and your future, even if that means not telling you exactly what you want to hear.
